Are your teachers and professors providing the education that you are looking for? Here are the methods to classify them based on their teaching methods. Part 1

Are your teachers and professors providing the education that you are looking for? Here are the methods to classify them based on their teaching methods. Part 1

First of all, let’s check what you are looking for from the education you are getting.
What are your goals? If you say that you want to get a job that you want or startup from higher position in a company after graduation, you will probably need high GPA. In this case, you don’t need to evaluate or categorize your teachers or professors since most of them are all capable of providing knowledge.

But, if you would like to learn ‘how to make a decision’, ‘how to be a leader’ or ‘independent thinker’, then you will need to categorize them to make sure what you are learning because not all teachers or professors are able to teach the skills that you need to learn. In fact, it is rare to fine the teachers or professors who can teach these skills. I will divide them in 3 major groups and start from the lowest level which is class 3.

Class 3. Teachers or professors who are blocking you from developing thinking skills that are essential for ‘making decision’, ‘being a leader’ or ‘being independent’.

Look for following characteristics from your teachers or professors.

1.     Teachers and professors who are simply delivering knowledge.

Simply stating knowledge as ‘the world war 2 started in 1939 and ended in 1945 …’ They deliver the knowledge for sure but with this you won’t be able to develop your brain because there is nothing for you to think further.

After learning, you can repeat the knowledge as you learned and even teach others who didn’t have the knowledge. But you are simply repeating the knowledge that you learned.

In fact, other animals with brain can do the same. For example, monkeys, they have sophisticated signaling system. They can separate each predator. They call ‘eagle’ as ‘eagle’ and they understand ‘what an eagle is’, learn and use just like human learning knowledge, understand and use.

Basically, these types of teaching methods are methods teaching signaling just like monkeys do. It is not human to develop brain.

So, if you are learning from these types of teachers and professors, you might gain some knowledge but your brain will be stuck in terms of thinking.

2.     Teachers and professors grade you by knowledge accuracy only (such as exams to check your knowledge).

Human brain is designed to build concepts from knowledge to utilize them. For example, if there is knowledge of ‘war’, your brain has potential to turn this into concept by asking ‘what is war?’ ‘why there have been so many wars in human history?’

But simply checking knowledge accuracy with exams, it will force your brain to stick with the knowledge that you learned instead of exploring further by conceptualizing them.

So, if your teachers and professors giving you exams and mark you based on the accuracy, their ways of teaching are once again in ‘Monkey’s level (teaching sinals)’.

3.     Teachers and professors who blame your capability of understanding the knowledge. (e.g. by saying ‘you are not following’)

Teachers and professors’ jobs are to make sure that you develop skills to be leaders, independent thinkers and decision makers.

But delivering knowledge cannot make you to develop these skills.

If they admit that they cannot make your brain developed, it will be them who are being blamed. So, they turn the arrow to the learners like you.

As they blame your capability of understanding, now it is your responsibility to understand because they provide all the knowledge but it is you who are not able to understand. If you are not following, you are the one being stupid.

So, if your teachers and professors are accusing your lack of understanding, again it means that they are only able to teach in monkeys’ level. Not human level (make your brain developed).

4.     Teachers and professors who use punishments.

Teachers and professors use punishments such as extra work etc. because you are not following, it means that they are blocking your brain development further. Monkeys teach in the same ways. They punish whoever didn’t follow the leader.

So, if your teachers and professors giving you extra work by punishment, it means that they are teaching like monkeys.

Human brains are designed to think so that make decision based on logic. But teaching in monkeys’ way won’t make learners’ brain to develop these skills.

The reason why they teach in monkeys’ level is simple. It is because their brains IN TEACHING are not different from monkeys. And societies don’t have tools to filter these people.

If you are able to think ‘outside of the box!’ or ‘creatively’ even if you learned from these types of teachers and professors, it means that it is you who developed those skills. Not because of the education you had.

Getting education is your right. So, you should be able to speak and choose the teachers and professors that you want in given situation.
